Environment
The scientific community probably has the deepest perspective on how business can impact the environment — for bad or for good. When you're in the business of scientific discovery, we know that you can't allow the processes you use or the places you work in to cause harm to the environment. We couldn't agree more. At Steelcase, we're dedicated to serving bioscience companies and all of our customers in a way that never becomes a disservice to our planet. Our environmental strategy focuses on three key areas:

Materials Chemistry:  It's all about understanding the materials we use — down to the molecular level — and assessing them against 19 human and environmental health criteria.

Life Cycle Assessment:  This process measures the total environmental impact of our products throughout their lifecycle — from raw materials to production, transportation, use and end-of-use phases.

Recycling and Reuse:  Our aim is to make the best decisions about using materials with recycled content with an eye toward ongoing recyclability. To that end we design for disassembly, because products that can be easily taken apart are more likely to be recycled. The Steelcase Environmental Partnership helps customers find an alternative to disposal when products are at their end of use.

We believe that big or small, every action that safeguards the environment is significant. We know that people in your organization — from the scientists at the bench to the accountants in the office — believe that too.  We're here to help.
